Man struck dead on I-24
A man was struck and killed while standing in the middle of Interstate 24 west near the split with Interstate 59 on Sep. 7.
Sergeant Hailey Smith with the Dade County Sheriff’s Office said that a female driver struck the man at approximately 12:46 a.m. near the Tennessee state line and immediately called 911. Smith said it is believed that the man was attempting to cross the three-lane highway when he was struck by the vehicle.
Officers arrived on the scene to find that the man had already died from his injuries. The coroner was called, DCSO Supervisors responded to the scene and the Georgia State Patrol worked the crash. Smith said that the interstate was closed for an hour for cleanup and investigation.
Smith said that all names are being kept private until the GSP gives the word to release them.
