Fatal Wreck on Hales Gap Road

A single-vehicle crash on Hales Gap Road on the evening of July 26 resulted in the death of a 45-year-old individual.

 

Charles Mooneyhan’s Chevrolet Blazer was traveling south on Hales Gap Road when it left the roadway and struck an embankment and small trees. According to Franka Young of the Department of Public Safety, the Georgia State Patrol was notified of the accident around 7:10 p.m. 

 

A Dade County Sheriff’s deputy was on scene at 10:27 a.m. on July 27 to locate the driver. However, the deputy was unable to locate Mooneyhan and left the vehicle at the scene. Family members later located the driver approximately 200 feet from the vehicle. Mooneyhan was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner.
