DCHS Recognizes state champion wrestlers

Dade County High School Athletic Director and Assistant Principal Brent Cooper and Head Football Coach Jeff Poston awarded 2019-2020 state championship rings to three wrestlers during the July 20 School Board Meeting.

Dakota Johnson, Cayden Cooper and Heidi Raines, who was unable to attend, were commended by Brent and Poston for their achievements. Cooper said this was the first time the school has had state champion wrestlers since 2004.

“I don’t want to take this for granted,” Cooper said.

Poston said that COVID-19 prevented the students from getting their rings sooner and that a public celebration of their achievements could not have happened without the support of the school board.

“I just want to thank you guys from the bottom of my heart,” Poston said. “The kids are going to have this for the rest of their lives and remember that the community did this for them.”
