Ryan Wins Dade County District 1 Commission Runoff

Robby Ryan won Tuesday’s Republican runoff for the Dade County District 1 Commission seat, defeating Jane Dixon in the final local race left unsettled from the May primary.

According to unofficial results from the Dade County Board of Elections, Ryan received 1,073 votes, or 66 percent, while Dixon received 551 votes, or 34 percent. Election officials reported 100 percent of precincts counted Tuesday night.

The race now moves toward the November General Election, though Ryan is positioned to become the next District 1 commissioner because no Democratic candidate is running for the seat.

The runoff was required after no candidate received a majority in the May 19 Republican primary. Ryan led that contest with 577 votes, while Dixon and Gene McBryar battled for the second runoff spot. Dixon finished two votes ahead of McBryar, 467 to 465, and a recount later left those results unchanged.

That set up Tuesday’s head-to-head race between Ryan and Dixon, with Ryan expanding his May lead into a decisive runoff victory.

The June 16 General Primary Runoff also included several statewide races that helped set Georgia’s November ballot.

In the Republican runoff for governor, Rick Jackson defeated Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and will face Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms in November.

In the Republican runoff for U.S. Senate, U.S. Rep. Mike Collins defeated Derek Dooley and will face incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff.

Other statewide runoff winners included Republican Greg Dolezal and Democrat Josh McLaurin for lieutenant governor, Republican Tim Fleming and Democrat Penny Brown Reynolds for secretary of state, Republican Richard Woods for state school superintendent, Democrat Nikki Porcher for labor commissioner, Democrat Keisha Sean Waites for insurance commissioner and Republican Josh Tolbert for Public Service Commission District 5.

The Dade County Board of Elections is scheduled to meet June 22 to certify the June 16 runoff results.
