Marie Conkle

Carolyn Marie Conkle, 82, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025.

Born Nov. 5, 1942, Marie was a kind and caring soul whose warmth touched everyone who knew her. Marie found joy in working in her yard, shopping, traveling, going out to eat, and especially spending time with her great-great-nieces, Ella and Lilah, who brought her endless happiness. She was a member of Bryant Holiness Church.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Conkle; parents, Tommy and Pluma Sampson; and brother, Harold (Sandy) Sampson.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet Hodge; sisters, Sue Branham and Joann Smith; brothers, Bill (Della) Sampson and Randy Sampson; granddaughter, Rebecca (Jeremy) Holloway; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 22, at the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Evan Whited officiating. Interment was at Oak Lawn Memorial Park.

CHRISTINE GINN

Christine Sims Ginn, 89, of Trenton, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Mrs. Ginn was active with the P.T.A. and recreational sports in Lookout Valley, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Linus Ginn; son, Tracy Ginn; sisters, Annie Bell Gold and Louise Lynne; brothers, Lloyd Sims, Gene Sims, Norris Sims, Gerald Sims, and Eddie Crabtree.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Randy Beene of Lookout Valley, Tenn.; granddaughters, Crystal Ginn, Sarah (Nik) Whitten, and Hayley Beene; great-grandson, Isaac Whitten; brother, Freddie Crabtree; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were Friday, April 18, at Lakewood Memory Gardens, West in Lookout Valley with Steve Middleton officiating.

LORENCE HOLLAND

Lorence “Buster” Brelen Holland, 81, of Flat Rock, Ala., passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

Buster lived life to the fullest. He was known for his joyful spirit, his love for people, and his talent for making any moment a little more fun. A true jack-of-all-trades, Buster was a skilled carpenter with a knack for fixing just about anything. He also enjoyed the art of distilling, a pastime that reflected his resourcefulness and creativity.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Juanita Steele Holland; children, Samantha Holland and Joey Cagle; and wife, Glenda Holland.

Survivors include his daughters, Tina (Scott) Clark, Melissa (Tim) Cagle, and Misty (Mark) McDougal; siblings, Hank Holland, Shelia Ellis, and Paul (Sandra) Holland; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 19, in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home.

MARY NABORS

Mary Esther Nabors, age 53, of Trenton, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

Born Sept. 19, 1971, in Duplin County, N.C., Mary was the daughter of John Douglas “J.D.” Futrell and the late Mary Frances Woodcock Futrell. She dedicated over two decades of her life to serving others through her work at Dade Health and Rehab, where she was deeply loved by both her co-workers and the residents. Mary had a true servant’s heart and made a lasting impact on everyone she met. Known for her quiet, sweet spirit and warm sense of humor, Mary brought comfort and kindness wherever she went.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Nabors; children, Alan Harper, Samantha Harper, and John Harper; stepdaughter, Christy Gravitt; siblings, John Futrell Jr., and Mildred Lanier; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will honor Mary’s life with a Celebration of Life at a later date.

LINDA SMITH

Linda Stelle Smith, 78, of Flat Rock, Ala., passed away Monday, April 14, 2025.

She was born on May 27, 1946. Linda loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings. Her favorite hobby was cooking. She could sew, knit, crochet, teach Sunday school class and even drive a school bus. She taught her children to appreciate God’s blessing of nature and His creation. But most of all, she taught her children at a young age about Jesus.

Survivors include her daughters, Lisa (Clay) Moreland and Lanette (Eddie) Hester; son, David (Kay) Wood; grandchildren, Megan (Cody) Lacaze, Amber Pittman (Cody Alton), Jessica Morgan, Nathan (Lindsay) Reeves, Alex Sweatmon, Justin (Sarah) Wood, and Matthew Wood; great-grandchildren, Boone Crabtree, Cove Crabtree, Annalie Lacaze, Norah Pittman, Rhett Pittman, Amelia Pittman, Gaeryn Alton, Orry Alton, Chase Baggett, Emma Baxter, Libbi Reeves, Calli Reeves, Chloe Wallen, Briar Wood, and Kinley Wood; brother, Robert “Bub” (Laura) Steele; nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to her caregivers from Hospice of Alabama, especially Brenda and Deb. And a very special heartfelt ‘thank you’ to her daughter Lanette, who shared her gift as caregiver.

A memorial service will be Saturday, May 17, at noon, at Edgewood Baptist Church in Trenton with Rev. Clay Moreland officiating.
