WILLIAM FREE

William Thomas “Will” Free, 57, of Henagar, Ala., passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025.

Born Dec. 20, 1967, Will lived a simple and meaningful life rooted in love for family, nature, and music. He found joy in the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or just soaking in the quiet beauty of the world around him and was also a gifted guitar player.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Free; mother, Mildred Bryant; father, Gene Cooper; brother, Michael Edward Cooper.

Survivors include his son, Dewayne (Lindy) Free; brothers, Robert Cooper and Lyvon Free; grandson, Samuel Free; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The family will gather for a private celebration of life on May 10, to honor Will’s memory.

WILLIAM HANNAH

William (Tubby) Boyd Hannah, 81, of Trenton, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Mr. Hannah retired from Shaw Industries as a shipping clerk. He went to work for Dade County Meal on Wheels and Ingles Market.

He was preceded in death by his parents; William Johnny Hannah and Anne Lou Hannah Wilson; brother, Ronnie Hannah; stepfather, Joe Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Rochelle Hannah; son, Tony Hannah; brothers, Steve Hannah and Jerry Hannah, Ider Ala.; stepdaughter, Ronna Whitehead; stepson, Justin Avans; grandchildren, Amber, Hailee, Trey, Jetta, Natali, Serenity, Isaiah, Jaxson, and Samuel; in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be April 19, 11 a.m., at New Salem Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Rising Fawn, GA 30738.

ERIC KIRKPATRICK

Christopher Eric Kirkpatrick, 47, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a devoted husband to his wife and a loving father to his daughters. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and was actively involved in church life. He was well-known in the South Pittsburg, Tenn., community having previously owned and operated Kirkpatrick’s Food Land with his father and brother. Eric loved spending time on the golf course with his girls and dad. He spent the rest of his free time watching football, basketball, and golf.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dewitt and Sue Leonard, and James and Glennice Kirkpatrick.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie; daughters, Kali, Brenley, and Kinsley; father, Eddie Kirkpatrick; mother, Pam Kirkpatrick; sister, Amy (Jeff) Saylors; brother, Jason (Angela) Kirkpatrick; in-laws, John and Barbara Smothers; brother-in-law, Matthew (Taylor) Smothers; aunt, Deb Leonard; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral services were Thursday, April 10, at the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home, with Brother Steve Townson officiating. Interment was at Oak Lawn Memorial Park in Bryant, Ala.

REV. RONALD MORELAND

Reverend Ronald Murphy Moreland, 84, of Trenton, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Ronald was born Aug. 16, 1940, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Lloyd and Thelma Moreland. He faithfully served in ministry for over 40 years, beginning his pastoral journey on Lookout Mountain and concluding his service at Macedonia Baptist Church in New Hope, Tenn. A devoted Christian, Rev. Moreland had a passion for serving the Lord that was evident in his love for his family and the many church congregations he shepherded over the years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who lived with humility, always putting others before himself.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Sue Moreland; sister, Gay Andrews; brothers, Glen, Ben, and Donald Moreland.

Survivors include his children, Donna Lynn (David) Brown, Jennifer (David) Davis, Tildon Hoyt Moreland, Derrick Murphy Moreland, and Christopher (Dora Lee) Branch; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Thursday, April 10, at the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home, with Bro. Johnny Gipson and Bro. Johnny Wooten officiating. Interment was at New Home Cemetery following the service.

WILLIAM PHILLIPS

William Benjamin “Bill” Phillips, 82, of Rossville, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Bill, also known as “Sonny” was born March 31, 1943, in Valley Head, Ala., to the late Floyd Dallas and Bonnie Lee Steele Phillips. He was a graduate of Valley Head High School and U.T.C, where he received his B.A. degree.  He was employed with Combustion Engineering for many years and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on both the USS Chanticleer and USS Sperry.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wives, Elizabeth Young and Emma Birchfield Phillips; siblings, Joyce Phillips, Othell Kilgore, Willadean Cheaves, and Emmalee Lehman.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Tammy Phillips of Rising Fawn; sister, Sue Stone, Trenton; brothers, Dallas (Vickie) Phillips of Huntsville, Ala., and Jimmy (Adele) Phillips of Valley Head, Ala.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 12, in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Aaron Wooten officiating. Full military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #106. Interment was at Valley Head Cemetery.
