CLIFFORD ABBOTT
Clifford Abbott, 84, of Lookout Mountain, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024.
Clifford was a retired electrical engineer from Combustion Engineering following 30 years of service. He was a renowned Golden Glove Boxing Champion for many years and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Clifford was a graduate of Dade County High School class of 1959 and a member of the Masonic Lodge #179 F&AM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Tempi Dunn Abbott; sons, Larry Abbott and Eric Cutts; siblings, Frank, Shortie, and Nolan Abbott, and Imogene Layne.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jo Ann Hixson Abbott; children, Mike and Josh Abbott, and Kristie (Robert) Graham; grandchildren, Kayla Abbott, Thomas “Tom” Abbott, A.J. Cutts, Elijah Cutts, Jordan Derryberry, James Hedrick, David Abbott, and Katie Abbott; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lamar, J.R., and Roy Lee Abbott, and Edna Blevins; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 21, in the funeral home chapel with J.R. Abbott officiating. Burial was at Ascalon Cemetery.

FRIEDA SHOEMAKE
Frieda A. Shoemake, 90, of Trenton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024.
Frieda was a proud military veteran, having served in the WACS intelligence division, stationed in Germany. A world traveler, she visited Scotland, England, Australia, the Bahamas, China, Russia, Iceland, Germany, Iraq, England, and almost all 50 of the United States. Her love of children showed through her involvement in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, teaching Sunday School, and as a substitute teacher for over 30 years. Her love of adventure resulted in numerous camping trips, canoeing, kayaking, cycling, skydiving, and a solo car trip across the United States and back.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Shoemake, DeLand, Fla.; sister, Dorothy Stevenson, Charlottesville Va.
Survivors include her son, Whelan Shoemake, Golden, Colo.;, daughter, Merewyn (Jimmy) Buckles, Trenton; step-daughter, Diana Shoemake, Rossville; brother, Al Steindorff, Yorktown Heights, N.Y.; grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Graveside services will full military honors will be Friday, Jan. 3, at 2:30 p.m., at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 2, noon until 4 p.m., at Ryan Funeral Home and Crematory.

RYE SPUHLER
Robbie “Rye” Irene Spuhler, 27, of Scottsboro, Ala., passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rye was known for her joyful spirit and deep love for her family. A devout believer in Christ, she found joy in singing gospel music. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Spuhler.
Survivors include her mother, Lucey Spuhler; sister, Heather Goff; brother, Brandon Spuhler; nieces, nephews, and one great-nephew.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 21, in the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Interment was at Bryant Cemetery.
In honor of Rye’s memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made directly to Moore Funeral Home to assist with her final expenses.

TOMMY WALSTON
Tommy Walston, 67, of Trenton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024.
Tommy was the owner/operator of Walston Wrecker Service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Walston; brother, Donnie Lee Walston; sister, Bessie Walston Hicks.
Survivors include his children, Cody (Kathleen) Walston, Jimmy (Lahayla) Walston, Tommy Lee (Georgia) Walston, Daniel Dawson, and James Flanagan; grandchildren, Adley and Ellie Walston, Axel Lee Reed, Dimitri Sawyer, Kymberlynn Walston, and Henry Walston; brother, Ray Walston; aunt, Evelyn Keith; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 21, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Eddie Cantrell officiating.
