MIKE DAVIS
Michael “Mike” Sherman Davis, 76, of Rising Fawn, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024.
Mike retired from the United States Army as a decorated soldier after dedicating 22 years to military service. Following his military career, he worked as a corrections officer at Walker State Prison. He enjoyed sports and was a big supporter of the Tennessee Vols football team. In quieter moments, he could be found indulging his interest in history through reading, or staying informed while watching Fox News.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maude Davis; sisters, Joan Anderson and Terry Beasley.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Davis; children: Mike Davis, Sherri (Mark) Dean, and Chris (Kristie) Davis; grandchildren, Dakota Dean, Hunter (Katie) Dean, Noah Dean, Phoenix Davis, Bailey Davis, and Delaynee Davis; great-grandchild, Jackson Dean; brother, George “Mac” Davis.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 30, at the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors followed at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hearth Hospice and the staff at the Chattanooga VA Clinic. They would also like to give a special thank you to Crystal Holt.

ROBERT T. HIGDON
Robert Theodore Higdon, 72, of Rising Fawn, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who cherished his family dearly. He was a hard worker and dedicated many years to his work as a poultry farmer, taking pride in his labor and enjoying his time caring for the land. He was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Ollie Cooper Higdon; brother, John L. Higdon.
Survivors include his wife, Terrie Higdon; children, Lynn (Nona) Higdon, Wanda (Jeff) Hartline, and Ashton (Chad) Davis; siblings, Betty Brooks, Helen (Wendell) Howard, Lucille York, Catherine Neely, Shirley Talley, Patricia Elliott, and Tony (Darcy) Higdon; grandchildren, Dillion (Kaitlyn) Reece, Zebulon Reece, Kara Higdon, Kami (Jay) Barrett, and Brooklynn Gass; great-grandchildren, Jase and Journee Reece, and Piper and Magnolia Barrett; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A graveside service was Thursday, Sept. 26, at Oak Lawn Memorial Park with Brother Wayne Winters officiating.

BETTY PATTERSON
Betty Jean Patterson, 87, of Bryant, Ala., passed away Friday, September 20, 2024.
A beloved figure of the Bryant, Ala., community, she was an avid gardener and found joy in working in her flower gardens and was a collector of outdoor figurines. She was an excellent cook and baker. Betty was a member of Bryant Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Patterson; sons Rodney Lee Stamper and George Stamper; parents, Ira Mack Pendergrass and Molly O’Desser Carter Pendergrass; sisters, Catherine Paris, Mildred Laney, Ophelia Pendergrass; brother, Charles Pendergrass.
Survivors include her daughters, Beverly (Charles) Short and Genie (Roberto) Vigo; sons, Nathan Stamper, Lonnie Stamper, and Paul Stamper; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Danny (Ruby) Pendergrass and Jimmy Pendergrass.
Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 27, in the Bryant chapel of Moore Funeral Home.

JOHN RIGGS, JR.
John Riggs, Jr., 87, of Rising Fawn, passed away Wednesday, Sept.25, 2024.
John was a native of Holden, W. Va., and was born Oct. 1, 1936, to the late John Riggs Sr., and Zara Pack Riggs and has resided in Dade County for several years. He was member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and was a fervent believer in Jesus Christ. John proudly served his county in the United States Air Force. He retired as a coal miner with Marrowbone Development in W. Va., after many years. John also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Riggs Runyan; brothers, Sylvester and Wilborn Riggs; sisters, Sybil Turyn, Ina Kent and Ethel Osack.
Survivors include his sons, John (Teresa) Riggs III and Harold Riggs; six grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the Trenton chapel with Pastor Chris Ware officiating. Military honors were observed. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens in Chapmanville, W. Va., on Thursday, Oct. 3, following a short graveside committal service at the cemetery.

GAY FRANCES SELF
Gay Frances Self, 81, of Trenton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024 following a 14 year battle with dementia.
loving wife, mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother succumbed to her 14-year battle with dementia at the age of 81.
Gay was born to George and Frances Munsell in Miami, FL on Oct. 12th, 1942. She was the youngest of four children and was a Florida girl through and through. She loved relaxing on the beach during the day and dancing her heart away at the youth center in the evenings. She was always listening to music and was a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan. Gay met Gene in the first grade but it wasn’t till the summer of 1962 that Gene finally got up the courage to ask her out and they have been together ever since. Gay and Gene celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary earlier this year. They lived in Madrid, Spain from 1963-1965 and in Miami, Fla., until 1993. Gay served as a pastor’s wife for over 40 years at Graham Baptist Church, Tamiami Baptist Church, and Faith Baptist Church. During her ministry, she taught children and adult women’s Sunday School and worked with the Women’s Missionary Union and Home Missions. In 2015, Gay and Gene moved to Trenton to be close to their son Timothy and their grandchildren.
Gay was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery; parents George and Frances; siblings Thomas, Jean, and Raymond.
Survivors include her husband, Gene; son, Timothy and wife Susan; grandchildren, Stephani and (Brandon) Smith, Cory and (Lauren) Self, and Brittany and (Taylor) Mai; numerous great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Self residence.

KERMIT VAUGHAN
William Kermit Vaughan, 81, of Wildwood, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was a 1961 graduate of Dade County High School and served four years in the United States Air Force. He was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Trenton Masonic Lodge #179 F&AM. He worked 25 years with the Boilermakers Union Local 454 and then 15 years with TVA where he retired. He then worked 16 years as a bailiff in the Dade County Court System. He was a faithful member of Morganville United Methodist Church for many years as well as Trenton Methodist Church. He was known for his beautiful vegetable gardens where he spent countless hours. His happiest moments were sitting on the porch with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Boston and Lois Vaughan; mother-in-law, Lucile Word; father-in-law, Alodeen Word; sisters, Myrtle (Junior) Martin, Flossie (Glenn) Brogden, and Wilma (Bill) Courtney.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Alojean Vaughan; sons, Joey (Lowanna) Vaughan and Jeff Vaughan; daughter, Hope (Jason) Monday; grandchildren, Ashton (Tye), Justin (Taylor), Colton (Whitley), Sydney (Shane), Jessica, Hannah and Kate; great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Jasper, Callie, Jayce, Kace, Jackson, Jettson, Boston and Annlea; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sunday, Sept. 29, at Trenton Methodist Church with full military honors presented by American Legion Post 106. Burial was Monday at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eddy Gifford, Richard Doyle, Danny Hall, Joe Reid, Michael Murphy, and David Kirk.

JOHNNY YOUNG
Johnny Lamar Young Sr., 56 of Hollywood, Ala., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, after a long illness.
Johnny worked as a truck driver for many years, sharing countless adventures on the road with his devoted wife, Brenda. In addition to his driving expertise, Johnny was a talented mechanic, often lending his skills to friends and family. Johnny was also known for his fun-loving nature and playful spirit. He cherished time spent with his family and was always ready to offer a helping hand to those in need.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Albert Young; foster parents, Bryant and Charlotte Finlayson.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Young; children, Angela (Jeremy) Croft, Johnny Lamar Young Jr., Gina Renea Young, and Jeremy Kirkpatrick; grandchildren, Angela Paige Boren, Madison Destiny Case, Dewayne Case, Ben, Bradley, Dillion, Serenity Jacob, Neveah Gant, and Brinlee Welch; mother, Merle Presswood; sisters, Tisha Young and Jackie Young; foster parent, Susan Hill; uncle, Amos Leon Young; aunt, Cathy Young.
Graveside services were Saturday, Sept. 28, at Bryant Cemetery with Brother Kevin Hicks officiating.
