The Sentinel wants to hear from our readers and residents of Dade County as part of research for an article. How’s your experience been with the United States Postal Service? As the Sentinel looks into national and local issues with USPS and talks to our local post offices, we want to hear about your experiences.
We are particularly interested in negative experiences from the last several years. However, we would also like to hear about what’s going well, so positive experiences and praise for excellent USPS mail carriers are also welcome.
Please email editordadesentinel@gmail.com if you would like to participate. Submissions will be referenced in an article but can remain anonymous if requested. Be sure that incidents referenced are specifically with USPS, rather than UPS, FedEx, or another delivery service.
Please include as much information about the incident as possible, noting generally where it occurred (for example, “mailbox in New Salem” or “PO box in Trenton”); including the year and, if possible, month and date of the incident; and description of what went wrong. Photo evidence is welcome.

My Mail Lady Georganna is the absolute best!never have a problem and she is very helpful and sweet.
We own a property with a couple homes so we have a few mailboxes. We don’t have any renters yet but someone moved in down the road and tried to take over one of our mailboxes cause the “postmaster” told them they could just choose any mailbox they wanted at the road.
Our experience has been awful. So many times we have had packages returned to sender and we were never notified about the packages being sent to us. My college tried to mail my diploma to me on three separate occasions and the post master marked unable to be delivered with no explanation. Our postmaster informed us that our mailbox was too small to receive packages, so we upgraded to a much larger mailbox just for them to not deliver our mail. They refuse to drop packages off at my home and told me that I would have to pay for a roundabout to be installed if I wanted my packages delivered. UPS and FedEx do not have these issues. I sent a check out to the trash service and was informed that he never received it. I later found the check in the ditch across the street from my house. It was never picked up. Our mail service has been failing us over and over and I have tried to reach out only to be told there was nothing that could be done about the situation.
When we lived off of Back Valley Road ( Woodmont Place) we had multiple issues with our mailman. All of the issues were reported and absolutely nothing was done. I spoke with numerous employees at the Trenton post office and reported everything. One of the many supervisors I spoke with put something on the mailman man’s record but he never changed. Everyone made excuses for him. Our neighbors had the same issues and they reported him as well.
We would go several days with NO mail and then we would a large amount. He would place packages out in the rain even though we had a large covered porch. The supervisors came to our house multiple times and documented our complaints but again nothing was ever done. We had a substitute driver and there were zero problems. The substitute driver finally told us that the driver had complaints from a lot of other people and the supervisors kept ignoring the problem. The problem mailman took another route and he is still delivering from the Trenton Post Office.
Mail carriers in South Dade deserve a big shout out for excellence. The 13 years I’ve had my mailbox, rather than using post office box, I’ve never had any issue. And it seems they go out of their way to take care of your mail or packages..
I’ve been waiting for a package that was in Chattanooga last week but now tracking says it’s in Atlanta. Why would the postal service send it to Atlanta from Chattanooga only to deliver it to Trenton? It’s says on the tracking delivery date unknown! 😡
