Lookout Mountain Resident Runs for Georgia House of Representatives

Contributed article.

University of Tennessee-Chattanooga communications professor Jack Zibluk qualified as the Democratic candidate for District 1 in the Georgia state House of Representatives. District 1 includes Walker and Dade counties. He is the first Democrat to run for the seat in a decade.

Zibluk lives on Lookout Mountain in Walker County (less than a mile from Dade County and about a half mile outside of Fairyland). He says, “I live across the street from Carter Field where my Australian Shepherd dogs, Juniper and her puppy, JJ (Juniper Jr.), are regulars. I am just their plus one.”

Zibluk says, “I had never really considered running for elected office, but I received a text from some Democratic recruiters in January. About four phone calls and a week later, I was in. I think a big part was that someone saw me at UTC’s 2023 Constitution Day Lecture Series. Rather than debate the main speaker or get into some argument, as I guess they expected, I worked to find common ground with someone with whom I have obvious political differences. That remains my focus moving forward: finding common ground in order to address issues.”

Good Luck. We need more folks wanting to run in districts that have gone uncontested prior.
