I-59 Paving Project Begins on Monday

One issue that Sheriff Ray Cross often receives calls about is the conditions of our interstates. Sergeant Chad Payne (public information officer) reported that Cross (among others) was one of the people who helped draw attention to the need for road repairs, and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is now ready to begin work.

The Dade County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) released the following:

“Sheriff Cross has been working hard lately to bring awareness to the condition of Interstates 59 and 24 in Dade County. As many of you know, I-24 and I-59 are heavily traveled interstates, and thousands of vehicles drive over those roadways every day, which leads to major wear and tear on the roads and the vehicles that travel them.

“Sheriff Cross is glad to announce a major paving project on Interstate 59, starting April 15th, and lasting approximately three months. Sheriff Cross wants to thank everyone involved in making this a priority project, especially the Georgia Department of Transportation. Everyone please be patient as this roadwork takes place, and as always, stay safe!”

Payne emphasized that the DCSO wants people to be prepared and remain patient throughout the project. The entire Dade County portion of I-59 will be repaved.
