DCHS Hosts College Fair

The Georgia Probe College Tour is an annual program of college fairs and high school counselor workshops that provide higher education access for Georgia high school students. Dade County High School was fortunate to once again get to host a fair on October 6th. Students in 10th-12th grade had the opportunity to attend, and nearly 40 colleges were there (most from Georgia, but some from other states like Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi). Counselors Amanda Clark and James Emmett met with the students ahead of time and provided a sheet of questions so they could think about what to ask the representatives present about programs offered, financial aid, housing, etc. Clark and Emmett said, “The goal of this college fair is to allow Dade County students to start thinking about options available to them if they choose to attend college. We hope that it gives our students motivation to continue working hard in high school and inspires them to look into options available to them in the future. If they are interested in pursuing a college degree, it is important for them to start comparing schools, cost, financial assistance, and even going on campus visits to help them make a decision.” The counselors recently took interested juniors and seniors to Dalton State College and plan to take a group to Georgia Northwestern Technical College this month.
