Two Percent Turnout For Public Service Commission Primary

The state-wide primary election for two seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) only drew two percent of Dade County’s voters to the polls. Out of 12,098 registered voters, 265 voted.

After a confusing back and forth process, Daniel Blackman (candidate for District 3) was disqualified from the Democratic ballot due to residency issues.

Here are Dade’s certified results from the Republican ballot:

PSC District 2

  • Tim Echols (I): 115
  • Lee Muns: 28
  • Total Votes: 143

Echols nabbed nearly 76 percent of votes across the state.

PSC District 3

  • Fitz Johnson (I): 130
  • Total Votes: 130

Here are Dade’s certified results from the Democratic ballot:

PSC District 2

  • Alicia M. Johnson: 94
  • Total Votes: 94

PSC District 3

  • Peter Hubbard: 31
  • Robert Jones: 42
  • Keisha Sean Waites: 25
  • Total Votes: 98

Waites received 46 percent of votes across the state—just shy of the 50 percent needed to win. A runoff between Waites and Hubbard (33 percent) will be held on July 15. (Jones received just under 21 percent across the state.)

The winner of the runoff will face Fitz Johnson in the November election in the District 3 race, while Alicia M. Johnson will face Echols for District 2.
